Psychographic Market Analysis from ESP Consultancy

Extra Sensory Perception was formed ten years ago as a psychographic market analysis and marketing consultancy that specialises in providing useful, meaningful insights to help marketing professionals deliver increased results in a business environment of ever-increasing expectations. ESP Consultancy's primary activities have been to provide psychometric, psychographic and values based market research that meets practical business needs and where required support clients in gaining maximum value through the provision of Planning and Creative consultancy.

ESP psychographics is rooted in over 20 years experience as successful marketing practitioners enhanced more than 10 years ago with qualifications in behavioural psychology. This unique combination of expertise was driven by our direct experience of how marketing optimisation was inevitably linked to an understanding of audience values, beliefs and attitudes. The frustration we had encountered was that theroetically valid systems being developed to use psychographics in marketing tended to have shortcomings in the area of practical application.

It seemed that when some people already had reservations about the practical value of conventional research, fundamentals of behavioural psychology; from Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to Schwartz’s circumplex were being introduced to marketing without clear ideas on how valid theory would be adapted to provide practical support to marketing teams.

It is fundamental to behavioural psychology that all behaviour
derives from our values.

When we began to train as Behavioural Therapists we recognised that an adaptation of a values-elicitation technique used in clinical practice would provide information that could be key in profiling, engaging, persuading and motivating an audience. This adapted elicitation was developed so that it could be gathered in a variety of formats, particularly over the phone and online.

The unique element in the process is the ability to objectively process and quantify audience personality, values, attitudes, traits and motivational preferences into a profile that is not only meaningful and accessible but also can be applied easily to Brand and product development, campaign planning, briefing and feedback.

We were, and still are, very results oriented so naturally the validity of our psychographic market research models was proven in the positive effect they had in marketing test campaigns.
